Primary Tasks At First United Methodist Church ministry is very important. We have ministries for people of all ages, ranging from Nursery School to our Older Adult Council, and everything in between.
Though we have many different ministries, they all center around our 5 Primary Tasks:
Worship: At First United Methodist, our Sunday morning worship services are at 8:45, 9:00 and 11:00. We glorify God through coming together for worship. We celebrate God’s presence in our lives through word and sacrament, music, pastoral and lay leadership. We also have choirs for all ages. We have special seasonal worship opportunities such as Ash Wednesday, Lenten worship, and Advent worship.
Missions: At First United Methodist, we seek to go into the community and world to serve in Christ’s name through missions. Our annual Great Day of Service is a tradition where teams go through Hopkinsville and serve various organizations in Christ’s name. Our Missions Mini-Grant Program provides funds for missions. Our church and its members serve many local and state organizations.
Discipleship: At First United Methodist, we seek to grow in our faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ through discipleship. We have a variety of adult Sunday School classes that study a variety of materials. We offer a variety of Disciple Bible Study options. Our small groups, both short-and long-term, offer opportunities for growth throughout the year. The McCarroll-Castle Library has many resources to help us grow in faith. Through the Name-Your-Ministry form, participants have the opportunity to plug into a ministry that fits their gifts and interests. We also offer Financial Peace University on a regular basis.
Outreach: At First United Methodist, we have a number of ways in which we seek and welcome people, bringing them to Christ and the church, such as: Evangelism, Teams of greeters, Teams of people who follow up with visitors and assign Fellowship Friends to those who have visited 3 times, an Inquirer’s Class, and a Communications Committee in charge of internal and external promotion, signage, and Web Site.
Fellowship: At First United Methodist, we care for one another through Christian fellowship. Some areas are: Older Adult Council and Ministries, visitation and support for shut-ins, hospitalization and bereavement care, a prayer chain, grief support groups, an annual church picnic, sports teams, young adult ministries, a retired men’s coffee group that meets on Monday mornings at 10:00, United Methodist Women. We also value small groups as an important way to grow closer to one another as we grow closer to God.
